Frequently Asked Questions

How much does tutoring cost at Halo Tuition Academy?

Group tuition starts from £20 per hour. GCSE 1-to-1 tuition starts from £40 per hour and A-Level 1-to-1 tuition starts from £50 per hour.

Do you offer both online and in-person tutoring?

Yes. Halo Tuition Academy offers both live online and in-person tuition from our Slough centre. Availability depends on the subject and format, with 1-to-1 tuition arranged flexibly and group classes following our timetable.

What's the difference between your 1-to-1 and group tutoring?

1-to-1 tuition gives a student the tutor's full attention, with teaching paced around their individual strengths, gaps and goals. Our group classes are deliberately kept small, with a maximum of 10 students and typically around 5-8, and students are matched by age, level and learning needs to create a positive class dynamic. The group environment builds camaraderie, with students bouncing ideas, methods and approaches off one another while still receiving structured tutor support.

How long are tuition lessons?

Halo Tuition lessons are 1 hour long. This gives time to review prior learning, teach and practise new content, address misconceptions and agree what the student should work on next.

Do you set homework and review it with students?

Yes. We set homework to reinforce the learning covered in lessons and review it with students afterwards. This helps us check understanding, identify remaining gaps and keep learning moving between sessions.

How do you test students and monitor their progress?

We use regular testing and progress checks alongside our ongoing lesson reviews. At appropriate points, students also complete unseen mock exams so we can assess how well they can apply their knowledge independently under exam-style conditions and identify the next areas to target.

Do Halo tutors provide mentoring, UCAS and career guidance?

Yes. Alongside academic teaching, our expert tutors mentor students and can provide guidance on UCAS, university and apprenticeship routes, career options and future job opportunities. Students who need more in-depth support can also use our dedicated Career Guidance & Support service.

Do group classes run during the school holidays?

Our regular group tuition classes run during term time. During selected school holidays we run separate intensive revision programmes and skills courses.

Does 1-to-1 tuition run throughout the year?

Yes. Our 1-to-1 tuition runs throughout the year, including school holidays, subject to tutor availability. This gives families greater flexibility and allows students to maintain momentum outside term time.

Do you run intensive courses during the Easter and summer holidays?

Yes. During the Easter and summer breaks we run intensive programmes for GCSE, A-Level and 11+ students, as well as coding camps. These are designed for focused revision, consolidation and skill development during the holidays.

Which subjects do you offer at Halo Tuition Academy?

Halo offers 11+ preparation in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning; KS3 tuition in Maths, English and Science; and GCSE tuition in Maths, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Design & Technology. A-Level tuition is available in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Economics, Business and Computer Science. Group and 1-to-1 availability may vary by subject and timetable. We also offer coding and digital pathways including Blox Coding, Python, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Robotics & Electronics and VR & AR Game Design.

Which exam boards do your tutors cover?

Our GCSE and A-Level tuition supports AQA, OCR and Edexcel specifications, with lessons aligned to the student's course and exam requirements. Our KS3 teaching is mapped to the national curriculum.

Are your tutors qualified and DBS-checked?

Halo tutors are DBS-checked and selected for their subject expertise, teaching ability and experience. Our team includes qualified teachers, subject specialists, graduates and professionals with relevant academic or industry expertise.

Is online tutoring as effective as in-person tutoring?

Both formats use the same structured Halo approach, with targeted teaching, resources, homework, feedback and progress monitoring. Online tuition is delivered live through an interactive platform, while in-person tuition takes place at our Slough centre; the best option depends on the student and family.

What makes Halo Tuition Academy different from other tuition providers?

Halo combines academic tuition with structured progress management and wider student development. Through the Halo Learning Accelerator™ Method, we use baseline assessment, personalised planning, regular review, homework, testing and unseen mock exams, while our tutors also provide mentoring and guidance on future study and careers. Students can then extend their learning through coding, digital skills and professional technology pathways.

How do I get started with a tutor?

Contact us with the student's year group, subject, goals and preferred format. We will discuss their requirements, recommend the most suitable option and match them with an appropriate tutor or group.
